Points for Prayer and Praise

Harry All the tests have now been completed and it appears Harry has the early stages of prostate cancer. This is not as serious as it sounds as they are just at the cellular stage and less than 5% so not a threat to life. He has opted for the operation and is awaiting another consultation regarding the options. There are no dates as yet for the operation but he will let everyone know in good time so you can all pray.

Tom Goodwin Please continue to pray for Tom as the hospital think he may have had a slight stroke though Tom is not convinced. He is not allowed to drive for a month so he could be missing from church during this time.

Jean Greenhalgh Over the last number of weeks Jean has been struggling with a persistent cough and aches and pains. On Monday she suddenly developed a very painful stiff neck. Please remember her in your prayers as she wants to be back on her feet doing the work of God.

Bereavement As many of you will know we have been praying for Roy’s sister, Alex, in America. She has been suffering with cancer for some time now and has rallied round a couple of times and gone into remission. Recently, however, she has begun to decline and Roy went over to see her with some members of the family on Thursday 23rd October. This was very timely as Roy wanted to see her while she was still alive. Sad to say she passed away on Monday night. The great comfort for them all is she was trusting in Jesus right up to the end and she is now out of all her pain and rejoicing around the throne of God in heaven. However, it is the family who needs our prayers now that God would comfort them in the grief and loss.

Shabbat Shuvah No, this is not the name of a visiting speaker, it is the term used by Jews for the Sabbath leading up to Yom Kippur. It means the Sabbath of Repentance or ‘returning’. It was this Colin Carson was asked to attend and speak at in a Jewish Synagogue in Kansas USA. He also spoke at the Bible Class on Sunday morning. The synagogue is called ‘B’nai Jehuda’ or the children of Judah. Colin reports it was a fantastic time and although he had to be sensitive, he was able to compare his faith with theirs to great effect. He also reports that the opportunities to witness at various homes were amazing. Knowing Colin he undoubtedly honoured Christ and presented him clearly as their Messiah. Pray God will speak to his ancient people and bring them to himself.

Ten Things Children need to Learn

These were sent to Jean Greenhalgh, courtesy of Tanja Jones, and Jean thought they would be good for the Refocus. There are others and they will be included in later editions of the Refocus.

1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats.

2) When your mom is mad at your dad, don't let her brush your hair.

3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the second person.

4) Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.

5) You can't trust dogs to watch your food.

6) Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair.

7) Never hold a dust-buster and a cat at the same time.

8) You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.

9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.

10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap.
